There is nothing quite like a fine acoustic piano – the sympathetic vibrations of the strings across the harp, the deep resonant bass notes and crystalline trebles. A fine acoustic piano is beautiful, organic, and mysteriously alive. Of course, many people, especially those just starting piano, have not saved up enough to buy a piano, or simply do not have the space for one.
Fortunately, there is a good alternative for those folks, with today’s electronic pianos. There are models that are small enough and cheap enough, to fit both your living room and your budget – and because they use sound samples taken from real pianos, they can sound very good. Further, they require little maintenance and always stay in tune!
The better models have “Touch-sensitive” full (88 keys) keyboards: Economy models may have only 76 keys (Casio WK-200 76-Key Personal Keyboard), but the Touch-sensitive feature is a requirement for any student of piano: without it, it is not possible to express the nuance or intensity in the music.
There are various manufacturers making electronic pianos today, with widely ranging prices. The more basic touch-sensitive models start at just a few hundred dollars, and can even be found at some Warehouse clubs.
